Our Story

Our story began three generations ago in Fredonia, Antioquia

Our family transformed our acres of rich and fertile land into a specialty coffee farm with a conscience. We named our collection of farms Oro Molido, which means ground gold, And still today, that name couldn’t be more appropriate. Not only does it represent the quality of the coffee that we grow, it represents our dedication to the land, the people and the process. Our family’s continued commitment to our farms and our community is one of the things that makes us most proud.

You can sip your Tambia coffee safe in the knowledge that you’re tasting the best of the best. We take meticulous care at every step, from choosing our soils to processing and roasting our beans.

Our lands are chosen for their unique altitudes and microclimates

It’s picking season on our farms, and our lush green trees are bursting with juicy red fruits. In the Central Andean mountains of Antioquia and Sierra Nevada of Magdalena, our soils are perfect for growing complex yet well-balanced coffee.

Origin is the single most important factor in determining coffee's quality. As with wine, the soil, elevation, precipitation and climate all work together to define how good a coffee can be.

Our family values hold forever strong

We care for our community and neighbours by investing in our foundation, making responsible environmental choices and enabling our employees to thrive by providing access to healthcare and education. We’re determined to help our communities build resilience for the years ahead.

What goes around, comes around. Speciality coffee is only ever as good as its people – and our coffee is hand-planted, hand-picked, hand-processed and overseen by our specialists, who are as loyal to Tambia as they are dedicated to their craft.

Generations-old craft, paired with scientific rigour

Some might call us obsessive, but we call it perfectionism. Once harvested, we expertly finish our beans using honey, washed or natural processing methods, before packing and transporting them to our roastery in the UK.

Our state of art laboratory and scientific partnerships with the Colombian Coffee Federation allow us to constantly adapt and improve our coffee. By learning, codifying, exploring and repeating, we've been able to customise a wholly unique set of coffee profiles for you to try.

Our community’s success is our success

To complement our own range we’re proud to feature a special selection of guest coffees by our neighbouring farmers. We pay them well for their single origin beans, and we can wholeheartedly vouch for the premium quality of the coffee they produce.

Supporting our neighbours helps to secure their incomes and enables them to invest in sustainable growing and processing practices. In return, they help us to deliver you a variety of the very best beans that you can feel good about drinking, all year round.

We have the long-term health of the planet in mind

The untouched jungle across our farmland provides shade for our coffee plants. Natural springs lie at the heart of our ecosystem, and a plethora of flora and fauna contributes to the terroir that makes our coffee so special. Mother nature herself oversees the quality of the beans you enjoy.

We’re Rainforest Alliance Certified and we farm according to its three pillars of sustainability: social, economic, and environmental. The Rainforest Alliance seal means that we are certified to the Rainforest Alliance Sustainable Agriculture Standard.

Our packaging is produced in a way that is friendly to the planet. Our pouches are carbon neutral and compostable. Our mailers are carbon neutral and 65% FSC recycled paper so you can recycle them all over again at home.

Award winning cupping and roasting – for the coffee lovers and the connoisseurs

The Q system is the universal language for evaluating coffee. It certifies coffees as specialty – or not – by assigning a score on a 100-point scale. The system quantifies taste attributes including acidity, body, flavour, aftertaste, uniformity, balance and sweetness.

Our coffee is consistently awarded Q scores of 84+, but that doesn’t make it exclusively for the connoisseurs amongst you. There are a whole range of varieties for you to enjoy – because we believe everyone deserves a great brew.

The start of your day is a happy ending for your Tambia beans

Their story started many months ago on our lush Oro Molido farmlands in Colombia. We’ve carefully planted, harvested, processed, roasted, packaged and posted our world-class beans with our own fair hands, right to your door.

Ordering your Tambia coffee couldn’t be easier. Buy a single bag or set up a subscription, which is easy to pause while you’re on holiday or adjust if you need a break. Your beans will be shipped the same day for freshness, and arrive through your letterbox.

Enough about us. Meet our coffees!
